|The Mint™||12 inches||$895||10 Years||100 Nights|
Shopping for a mattress requires research and a proper understanding of your own sleeping needs. Even the most expensive and well-made mattress may not promote a restful sleep if it is not the right fit for you. To decide if a T&N bed is best for you, we’ve compiled this guide.
Tuft and Needle was founded in 2012 by two software engineers. They have locations in a few states and their mattresses can be found in Walmart’s, Lowe’s, and Crate and Barrel’s all over the country. But like many new bed-in-a-box companies, they focus a lot of their time on selling through their website. T&N’s core value is to provide the customer with a positive shopping and customer service experience. They’re headquartered in Arizona and they manufacture their mattresses right here in the United States.
T&N sells two different mattress models, the Original Tuft & Needle mattress (known as the Original, or the T&N) and the Mint™. Per their website, they use premium poly-foam to craft both of their mattress types.
The cover of both of these mattresses is made from a micro-polyamide and polyester blend. The Original mattress has two layers, their T&N Adaptive foam® layer, and a supportive base layer. Their T&N Adaptive foam® is designed to provide pressure relief and comfort to specific areas of your body. Their website describes it as, “capturing the best benefits of memory foam and latex.” The supportive base layer is made from high-density poly-foam and is designed to provide support for the sleeper and prevent any sagging in the mattress over time.
Unlike the Original mattress, the Mint™ has three layers— the enhanced T&N Adaptive foam® layer, a transition layer, and the supportive base layer. The transition layer included in the Mint™ bed is made from high-density poly-foam, just like the supportive base layer; however, this foam is not as dense as the base layer.
Two unique aspects to the T&N mattresses is the integration of heat-wicking graphite and cooling gel. Both of these materials are meant to help regulate your temperature while you sleep. In the past, a common complaint with all-foam beds was they slept too hot. T&N argues that their Adaptive foam® is the next big thing in mattresses and they use both graphite and gel technologies to help promote a cool sleeping environment.
As we discussed, Tuft and Needle sells two different mattress models: the Original and the Mint™. T&N describes both types as being medium-firm. The Original is 10″ tall while the Mint™ is 12″ tall. Besides the addition of the 2-inch transition layer, the Mint™ model has 30% more graphite and 30% more cooling beads than the Original mattress, enhancing heat reduction throughout the mattress.
You may be wondering, besides enhanced heat reduction, how does the feel of these beds differ? For starters, the enhanced T&N Adaptive foam is meant to increase the softness of the bed and provide better pressure relief. To compensate for added firmness of the Mint™ base, T&N added a transition layer between their enhanced adaptive foam and the base. This transition layer is meant to prevent you from sinking through the plush foam and hitting their firm base layer. Lastly, they added enhanced edge support to their mattresses.
T&N designs their mattress for universal comfort, both the Original and Mint™ are recommended for most any type of sleeper. The Mint™ is described as having “everything that makes the original great, with exciting new features.”
Tuft and Needle’s mattress prices fall on the more inexpensive side of the spectrum, which makes sense as the company only uses poly-foam in their products. A queen-size T&N mattress costs $595, and a queen-size Mint™ mattress costs $895. T&N prides themselves on their low prices, stating on their website they stick to using only 2 or 3 layers in their mattresses to keep the cost of the bed down.
Sleep Trial & Warranty Information
T&N offers a sleep trial with their mattresses, allowing you to test the mattress in your own home for up to 100 nights. During this sleep trial, if you decide the mattress isn’t your best fit, you have the option to return for a full refund. You do have the option to exchange with T&N, however, they only allow one return per household per year; so, if you decide to exchange your mattress for their other model, you would not have the option to return the next one.
Your T&N mattress also comes with a 10-year limited warranty, this warranty covers any indentations greater than 3/4″. Should your mattress be deemed defective, T&N will choose to either repair or replace your mattress.
Tuft and Needle Mattress Reviews
When reading customer reviews, we found most of T&N’s customers seem to be very happy with their purchase, and usually rate their mattress 4.5 out of 5 stars. The T&N mattress is a great choice if you’re looking for a good value, wanting a cooler mattress, and are a combination sleeper. Additionally, many Tuft and Needle reviews mentioned this mattress is great for isolating motion, meaning it’s a great option for couples, especially those who share a bed with someone who tosses and turns.
Reviews did mention T&N is not the best option if you prefer a mattress that is either really firm or soft, as both of their models are described as medium-firm. They also advise stomach sleepers and people over 250 pounds to avoid the T&N because it may not provide enough support.
Though T&N aims to provide a universally comfortable mattress, it’s impossible to meet the sleep needs of every individual with only two mattress models. We hope our guide has been helpful in determining whether a Tuft and Needle mattress could be for you. If you feel the mattresses T&N offers may not be your best choice, we encourage you to read on to find the best mattress for your own sleep needs and preferences.
