Why Read a Black Friday Mattress Sales Guide for Online Companies?
Mattress shopping has changed radically over the years. Now, major online brands such as Casper, Tuft & Needle, the Leesa mattress, and Amerisleep offer very competitive Black Friday mattress sales and Cyber Monday mattress deals. Now, it’s no longer a requirement to deal with long lines, hectic crowds, and confusing Black Friday mattress sales.
Online mattress companies have many advantages over traditional, brick-and-mortar companies. First, online mattress companies have more generous sleep trials. Sleep trials let you try the mattress at home for a significant period, to help you make the right choice. Second, online mattress companies are more affordable. They have less overhead because of their business model and can pass those savings on to you. Finally, online mattress companies focus on making their own product. Casper makes Casper mattresses. Leesa makes Leesa mattresses. This gives online mattress companies more control over their product. Plus, for warranties and other customer service issues, you do not have to go through a middleman.
In this Black Friday mattress sales guide, we will present an overview of what we think are the best mattress deals and what we like about each company. Then we will provide more detail for each online mattress deals. At the very end, we will have a comprehensive list of online Black Friday mattress deals.
The Savvy Sleeper Editors’ Choice: Amerisleep
Amerisleep sells luxury memory foam mattresses at an affordable price. Their use of clinically-proven support layers, FDA-determined covers, and plant-based foam make them an easy choice. For Black Friday, they will be offering $200 off any mattress and 2 Free Pillows. From what we have seen, that’s the best promotion they offer.
Casper, Black Friday Sale Coming Soon
Casper sells three different mattresses, the Essential, the Casper, and the Wave. The mattresses have three very different price points. The Essential is $600 for a queen, the Casper is $995 for a queen, and the Wave is $1,995 for a queen. The Casper and the Wave both offer zoned support, which is a big plus.
Leesa mattress, Black Friday Sale Coming Soon
Leesa technically makes two mattresses. The Leesa, an all-foam option, and the Sapira, a hybrid. We are focusing on the Leesa as we think it is the better deal. We appreciate their simple construction and their 2” of memory foam. Plus, we think it’s pretty great they donate one mattress for every ten they sell.
Tuft & Needle, Black Friday Sale Coming Soon
Tuft & Needle makes two all-foam mattresses, the Tuft & Needle and the Mint. The most significant difference between Tuft & Needle and other companies on our list is Tuft & Needle does not use memory foam in their mattresses. They use simple polyurethane foam and a proprietary mixture of polyurethane foam they brand as TN Adaptive Foam. Because of this, Tuft & Needle mattresses are the most affordable on our list.
In the past, Tuft & Needle was against offering promotions. They saw promotions as de-valuing their product and as a gimmick to lure in customers. Now, they offer the usual holiday promotion, making their already affordable products even more affordable.
The Savvy Sleeper’s Choice, in Detail
Amerisleep – Why Did We Choose It?
Amerisleep offers affordable, high-quality memory foam mattresses made from materials clinically-proven to increase comfort and support.
According to some sources, memory foam mattresses already have a higher owner satisfaction rating than latex, foam, and innerspring coils, providing superior comfort and support.
Amerisleep mattresses come in five different levels of firmness, to accommodate the variety of sleepers in the world:
- The AS1 mattress — Firm
- The AS2 mattress — Medium-Firm, and voted best mattress for back pain by Business Insider
- The AS3 mattress — Medium and called the best mattress you can buy online by Allure
- The AS4 mattress — Medium-Soft
- The AS5 mattress — Soft
The Celliant® Cover
All Amerisleep mattresses have a Celliant® cover. Celliant® fabric is FDA-determined to increase comfort and promote more restful sleep. Celliant® recycles your natural body heat into infrared light, increasing local blood flow and naturally cooling the body.
The Bio-Pur® Layer
The top layer of every Amerisleep mattress is their Bio-Pur® material. Partially made with plant-based materials, Bio-Pur® is five times more breathable and ten times bouncier than traditional memory foam. Bio-Pur® is designed to make it easy to change positions, move within the bed, and reduce concerns of sleeping hot.
The HIVE® Layer
The HIVE® support layer contains hundreds of hexagonal cutouts, designed to provide zoned pressure relief. Grouping the cutouts closer together where more support is needed and spacing them further apart where extra cushion is needed, allows this layer to provide excellent comfort and support. HIVE® technology has been scientifically proven to relieve pressure points up to 49%. HIVE® is the second layer of all Amerisleep mattresses, except the AS1, which removes the HIVE® layer completely to be Amerisleep’s firmest option, and the AS5, which puts the HIVE® layer beneath the AS5’s Active Flex layer.
The Active Flex Layer
The AS5, Amerisleep’s softest mattress, contains an extra layer none of the other beds have: Active Flex. Active Flex is designed to be highly responsive, providing a latex-like bounce to the AS5. Amerisleep puts this layer right beneath the soft, conforming Bio-Pur® giving the AS5 it’s soft but supportive feel.
The Bio-Core® Layer
The bottom layer of each Amerisleep mattresses is their Bio-Core® foam. Bio-Core® provides the mattress with stability and durability, allowing the layers mentioned above to support you.
Benefits of the Company
Amerisleep is one of the most eco-friendly mattresses on the market. Using a VPF (Variable Pressure Foaming) method to create their foam, virtually zero emissions are released into the environment. Plus, Amerisleep replaces a significant amount of petroleum, used in making memory foam, with plant-based materials.
Amerisleep offers a free 100-night trial. If you decide the mattress is not right for you, and you want a full refund, call Amerisleep and they will arrange to have it picked up, at no cost to you, and issue a complete refund.
If the mattress works for you, Amerisleep provides a 20-year warranty covering the “sagging” threshold on the market (0.75 inches).
Amerisleep has been in the industry for a long time, allowing them to collect a high number of customer reviews. Their mattresses are currently rated 4.7 out of 5 stars – an excellent rating that represents the quality of the product.
1st Runner-Up, in Detail
Casper Mattresses – Why Did We Choose It?
Casper is a pretty big deal. You have probably heard a Casper commercial at some point. Casper has a podcast, a print magazine, they sell naps in Brooklyn, and they also make three mattresses.
Casper’s model is pretty simple. They have a very affordable mattress, the Essential, a mid-range priced mattress, the Casper, and a luxury mattress, the Wave. Each of these mattresses is pretty different from one another. They use memory foam, which we like but never more than an inch and a half of it (no matter which model you purchase), signaling their mattresses are going to be on the firmer side.
As mentioned, Casper makes three mattresses. As the price of the mattress goes up, so does the amount of material and the overall height. The Essential has three layers of foam and is 8.5-inches tall. The Casper has 4 layers of foam and is 10 inches tall. The Wave has 5 layers of foam and is 11.5 inches tall. The Essential is $600, the Casper is $995, the Wave is $1,995. Some simple math shows how much value they are attaching to the Wave. The Wave is only 3 inches taller than the Essential and only contains 2 more layers, but costs $1,395 more than the Essential.
The Essential contains three layers which, from the top layer to bottom layer, consists of polyurethane foam, memory foam, and high-density polyurethane foam. Unfortunately, Casper does not share what constitutes “high density” to them. While some third-party reviews list this mattress as a medium-firm mattress, in our experience the thinner the mattress, the more firm the sleeping experience, and 8.5 inches is definitely on the thinner side.
The Casper was the flagship model of Casper. It is 10 inches thick, contains four layers which, from top to bottom, consist of latex-like foam, memory foam, polyurethane foam, and high-density polyurethane foam.
The Casper’s third layer, the polyurethane foam layer, has zoned support. The layer itself is cut into three sections, with the middle section made of firmer foam, designed to provide more support for your hips, while the top section and bottom section (head and foot) are softer to allow for more cushion.
While 1.5 inch taller, and one layer thicker, than the Essential, the Casper rates as firmer, a 7 out of 10, just like the Leesa which we will go over below.
The Wave contains five layers which, from top to bottom, consists of Flo Foam, latex foam, memory foam, polyurethane foam with polymer support, and a contoured polyurethane foam base.
Casper does not disclose the type of latex (Dunlop or Talalay) or the amount of latex in their latex foam. But, latex is an expensive material and explains some of the price jump in the Wave compared to the other two models.
The Wave’s Flo Foam is a proprietary foam, designed to draw body heat away from the sleeper. With the first two layers being Flo Foam, designed to keep you cool, and latex foam, latex being naturally cool, the Wave should not come with any heat retention concerns.
Plus, with their polymer support technology and contoured base, Casper designed the Wave to be supportive and conforming.
Benefits of the Company
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial and no one where on their website indicates the customer must keep it for a certain amount of time, making Casper’s sleep trial a good value and customer-friendly.
Casper mattresses come with a 10-year warranty. Most mattresses are concerned with how much sag or body impression a mattress is allowed to develop. Casper’s warranty requires a sag of greater than 1 inch. But, Casper also requires you send them the defective mattress so they can inspect it and possibly repair the defect. While Casper does say they will cover the cost of shipping, at Savvy Sleeper we can’t imagine shipping a mattress back to a company is an easy task for most customers.

2nd Runner-Up, in Detail
Leesa Mattress – Why Did We Choose It?
Leesa makes two mattresses: the Leesa and the Sapira. The Sapira is a hybrid mattress, which may be worth looking into if you’re trying to stay away from all-foam. However, for those who are looking for the benefits of an all-foam mattress (even support, less chance of sagging, reduced motion transfer), we recommend the Leesa.
We like the Leesa mattress because the website does a fairly good job at being transparent, by providing the density of its foam and the IFD (how much pressure it takes to cause something to bend, or deflect). Those are important factors when it comes to buying a mattress, and out of our Savvy Sleeper’s choices, only Amerisleep and Leesa provide the information to their customers. But, having only one all-foam mattress option is limiting. While we agree too many choices can be confusing, too few can be restricting. Mattresses are not a one-size-fits-all sort of product.
The Leesa mattress comes in one firmness, which may be a drawback for those who need unique support. A third-party website rates the Leesa a 7 out of 10, in terms of firmness.
The mattress has three foam layers. The top layer is 2-inches of polyurethane foam. Leesa brands this as “cooling foam”. How it cools is not made clear, but given this layer of foam is also 3.0 PCF dense, it’s safe to assume the Leesa does not sleep hot. From the specs available on the website, Leesa’s first four inches are designed to give in easily, while the final six inches are meant to provide support. Still, Leesa’s thin profile of 10 inches explains why this mattress rated 7 out of 10 on firmness.
According to the FAQs page on the website, the Leesa is made in the USA and uses CertiPUR-US® approved foams.
While it doesn’t have as many features or advanced technology as our first choice, the Leesa is a good mattress for its price of $995.
Benefits of the Company
Leesa offers a pretty average 100-night free trial. Yes, they give you 100 nights. However, they do require you sleep on it for 30 nights first. Most of the time, this is not an issue. We at Savvy Sleeper agree, 30 nights is a good amount of time to give your mattress before deciding on whether or not to keep. However, a drawback of making a customer wait 30 nights is simple: what if your new mattress is causing you so much pain you are now on the couch? It’s now frustrating to have to wait 30 days before processing a refund.
The Leesa mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty. The Leesa allows any sag or impression that is not greater than 1-inch. In Savvy Sleeper’s opinion, it would be better if Leesa tightened the warranty to not let any sag or impression greater than .75-inches develop, but it’s still much better than traditional innerspring warranties which can require sags of 1.25-inches or greater.

3rd Runner-Up, in Detail
Tuft & Needle – Why Did We Choose It?
As mentioned, Tuft & Needle makes two all-foam mattresses, but they do not feature memory foam. Tuft & Needle is proud of this fact, calling it out on their website. Savvy Sleeper chose this as our 3rd Runner-Up, mainly because of Tuft & Needle’s affordability but also to offer our readers a non-memory foam option.
Tuft & Needle makes the 10-inch Tuft and Needle and the 12-inch Mint. The Tuft and Needle is made of two layers of polyurethane foam, while the Mint is made of three layers of polyurethane foam.
The Tuft & Needle
The first layer of polyurethane foam is about 2.8lbs per cubic foot. The second layer, or the core layer, is about 1.8lbs per cubic foot. Based off reading those numbers, we can say this mattress is going to feel firm. The top layer in particular, when compared to Leesa’s 3.0lbs per cubic foot and Amerisleep’s 4.0lbs per cubic foot, is less dense than the competition. The less dense the foam, the less supportive it may be. But, as we said, we chose this mattress for its affordability. For the budget-conscious customer, you can purchase a Tuft & Needle for $595, the least expensive option from our top choices.
The first layer of the polyurethane foam is about 3.5lbs per cubic foot. The second layer is 3.0lbs per cubic foot. The bottom layer is 1.8lbs per cubic foot. The increased densities of these layers indicate the Mint was designed to be more supportive. The Mint is sold at $895 for a queen, still making it one of the more budget-friendly options on our list.
Benefits of the Company
Tuft & Needle offers a 100-night trial, and they do not, according to their website, require customers to keep it for 30 days before returning.
Tuft & Needle also has a 10-year warranty, which requires a visible sag or impression in the mattress greater than ¾” of an inch. Unlike Casper, Tuft & Needle does not require you to send the product back, but Tuft & Needle may elect to repair the defective model rather than replace it, and no details were available on how they would perform repairs.

The Savvy Sleeper’s Top Choices, an Overview
When looking at an online mattress company, see what firmness options they provide. Do they have multiple mattresses or do they sell just one?
As you can see above, Amerisleep makes five mattresses, designing each mattress to accommodate a specific type of sleeper. By doing this, Amerisleep already stands out. It is more likely to find a mattress that works for you at Amerisleep, given its catalog.
Also, look at how transparent the company is with their materials and manufacturing process. The more information the company provides, the easier it is to see if the mattress will be a good fit.
For example, while Tuft & Needle makes two mattresses, to Leesa’s one, we still made Tuft & Needle our last runner-up. The reason is simple: the research we have done has made us pro-memory foam. Tuft & Needle is staunchly anti-memory foam. However, if budget is your main concern or you wish to stay away from memory foam for another reason, Tuft & Needle may have a solution for you. And, if you’re on an affordable mattress hunt, check out our earlier post about finding the best bed for the money.
Then read the warranties and the sleep trials provided by the company. Considering all of these factors will help you narrow down your choice to the right mattress for you.
